The Wolves Of Avalon release split single

Free single from UK-based black metal acts

The Wolves Of Avalon 2014

The Wolves of Avalon, the pagan black metal band formed by The Meads of Asphodel’s frontman Metatron, have released a free split single with fellow UK-based black metal act Witchclan, via Sixsixsix Records.

WOA have contributed the track ‘The Gorging Glut Of Sodden Clay’, which comes from their second album ‘Boudicca’s Last Stand’ which was released earlier this year and features guest vocals from Varggoth of Nokturnal Mortum. Witchclan contribute the track ‘Treading on Angels’, from their new album ‘The Dark Binding’, theirs being a harsh, primal track that would appeal to fans of the European black metal acts of the 90s, whilst WOA’s track brings in folk elements and a medieval atmosphere.

The split single can be downloaded for free from Bandcamp at http://sixsixsixmusic.bandcamp.com/album/witchclan-the-wolves-of-avalon.

For those who would like to hear more from ‘Boudicca’s Last Stand’, their promotions company has uploaded a few tracks to Youtube. Featuring various guests from bands such as Drudkh and Nokturnal Mortum, ‘Boudicca’s Last Stand’ is out now digitally on iTunes and on CD via Godreah’s website – http://www.godreah.com/releasedetails.php?id=221

Aghast 07-10-14

After months of hard work and preparation, and a well-received set at this year’s Bloodstock Festival, UK metallers Aghast! have finally released their debut album, ‘All The Rage’.

Featuring 11 tracks of relentless death metal, including tracks you might have missed from their previous couple of (now out of print) EPs, ‘All The Rage’ is everything that longterm fans of this Herts/London-based quartet would hope for; the title track is a full-on statement of intent (have a listen below), tracks such as ‘Drop Dead Famous’ and ‘Bang To Rights’ race along at almost unhuman levels, and live favourite ‘It’s Your Funeral’ sounds as sharp as ever. New track ‘Sea Of Trees’ is possibly one of the angriest songs I’ve ever heard from this band; clearly (and thankfully), there was no holding back during these recording sessions. If the reception they received at their album launch gig at Club 85 in Hitchin is anything to go by, all that hard work is about to payoff.

Whilst there may be the occasional moments of restraint and melody, Aghast largely deal in lessons in OTT extremity and heaviness, which have been finely honed and shaped into these 11 tracks. If you want subtlety then look elsewhere – for unrestrained UKDM, go to Aghast!

Stream the debut Indi & The Vegas album

Catchy funk-rock trio release debut album

Indi & The Vegas 2011 promo

Earlier this year I had the pleasure of assisting with bringing Indi & The Vegas’ self-titled debut album to the public’s attention, when I co-promoted its launch gig, but I’ve only recently discovered that you can stream the entire album via Soundcloud, thus allowing me to spread the word further. If laidback funk-rock, inspired by the likes of Queen, Prince and The Jackson Five sounds like your kind of thing, then give this Bedford trio a listen!

I’ve been a fan of these guys for a few years now, and was so glad to hear that a full album was on the way, after hearing how good their previous release, the ‘Fair Fight’ EP, was. A few of those EP tracks can be found on this album, including live favourite ‘Pheromones’ and ‘California Sun’ – other highlights include ‘She’s On Fire’ and ‘Holiday’. Having built-up a huge following around the Home Counties, been championed by the likes of BBC Introducing and drawn massive crowds at the Balstock and Rhythms Of The World festivals, it’s surely only a matter of time before they get wider recognition.

For chilled-out, well-produced funky tunes with catchy riffs, Indi & The Vegas are essential listening, and in my opinion this album could easily sit alongside releases from bigger names released over the past year as one of the strongest albums.

For fans of: Living Colour, Prince, Daft Punk, UB40, Incubus, 311, 80s soul
